Valentine's Day: Show me the Love!

Admit it……you love Valentine’s Day. No? Time to get in the spirit! I’m going to attempt to sway you with some ideas on how to make this a fun day. Try to keep an open mind.

IF YOU’RE SINGLE

Start by being your own Valentine.  Sound cliché? Okay. How about, do something special for yourself.

  • Buy yourself your favorite flowers.  They don’t have to be red roses.  They should be flowers that make you feel good.  Even one beautiful long stem rose is a lovely gift.

  • Buy yourself something delish to eat.  A treat.  Just for you.

  • Be sweet to yourself.  Treat yourself to a mani-pedi. Guys, if you’re not into the pedi thing, go get a hot shave or treat yourself to some sexy aftershave or cologne.

  • Sink into a tub of bubbles and fragrance with some soft music. Come on guys…. have you ever tried it?

  • Put a spring in your step and buy yourself some helium balloons.  They’ll lighten your day!

  • Invite a friend to join you for a hot cocoa with whipped cream or marshmallows.  Some chocolatiers have hot cocoa bars.

  • Go to your favorite bookshop, have a latte and treat yourself to a new book or your favorite magazine.

I don’t know exactly when it happened or who started it, but whoever did, Gal-entine’s Day has started a trend of celebrations with gal-pals and BFF’s and fun, fun, fun.  Go for it!

 IF YOU’RE A COUPLE

You have the option of Traditional or Creative

  • Flowers, chocolates, and beautiful cards will never go out of style.  Indulge.

  • Candlelight dining at a favorite restaurant or cozy café.  Also a winner.

  • An evening overnight at a local hotel with a couple’s massages and a whirlpool.  Love it.

If you’re looking for something a little different how about this:

  • Order a dinner delivery in advance.  Plan to get home a little early.  Put on an apron with nothing underneath.  Have the table set with some candles.  You may not get to the meal right away, but there’s nothing wrong with “reheating” (if you’ll pardon the expression).

  • Keep it simple - Take a moonlight walk holding hands.

  • Write each other a special notecard or love letter or, if your game, a poem. Rekindle the heart flame.

  • Each of you separately buy your significant other a take-out meal (one of their favorite dishes) and bring them home to share your meals with each other.  Keep it a surprise til you get home.

  • If you have kids, hire a babysitter for the night.  Pay her extra to take them to her place for a special sleepover.  The rest is up to you.

Whatever you do, remember the symbol of the day is the heart.  So be loving to yourself, give a friend a hug or a homemade valentine, tell someone you love them, hug a puppy, smile at a stranger, let the love in.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
