Physical vs Virtual Events?

Just when we thought the coast was clearing ……………. Omicron.

It’s the New Year, and in many ways it feels like we are going backwards.  Ugh!  Many of you cancelled your parties in December, feeling frustrated and disappointed. In NYC there are still some long lines to get testing, longer waits for test results and home testing kits have been swept off the shelves like toilet paper in 2020.

And yet …………. birthdays still go on, anniversaries continue and bachelorettes still want to celebrate. What’s a party planner to do? The good news is that you still have some choices and I’m hoping this blog post will shed some light.

Consider Virtual Events

Okay. Go ahead and say it….. “Oh God, not another Zoom thing. I want to be with people!” I get it. We all want the hugging and the kissing and the hand shaking and the real physical bodies to hang out with. The question, of course — is it worth the risk? With Omicron still surging this month, you may want to consider some Virtual fun in January and possibly February. Here are some advantages to having Virtual Psychic Entertainment:

  • Totally safe.

  • You can get together with friends and family from ANYWHERE around the globe.

  • Free of any driving, flying, training, busing, boating, biking.

  • So, no travel time or travel costs.

  • No bad weather issues to consider.

  • More entertainment style options.  Virtual entertainment allows you to choose from a variety of group experiences.

  • No limit to the number of guests.  No minimum to the number of guests.

  • Lower rates.

Plan Safely For Physical Events

I understand that some of you may wish to continue the “in-person” experience. If you want to have a Physical Event, consider these suggestions:

  • Only invite guests who are fully vaccinated.  Better yet, vaccinated and boosted.

  • Ask your guests to take a home test 2-3 hours prior to coming (suggested by the New York Times). Hosts do the same, of course.

  • Some hosts are handing out test kits to their guests before entering the event or their home. This could be in a separate area or while people are still outdoors or in their cars.

  • Consider reducing the number of guests at your event.  Perhaps you can plan two smaller soirées instead of one bigger one. Or have a small one now and a larger one a little later when things calm down.

  • Ventilation, ventilation, ventilation.  Have some windows or doors cracked. Invest in an air purifier that kills viruses.

  • Ask anyone showing signs of a cold or feeling unwell to stay home.

Whether you go Virtual or Physical, make a plan that feels right and safe for you and your guests. I’ve put a reference below to help you navigate the process.

May you be safe. May you be well. May you keep celebrating!
