A Midtown Gem
After a long stretch of only virtual events, I put my toes back into the water with physical events this past fall. One of the things I love about “in person” entertaining is discovering new venues in the city (NYC) and this one was a delightful surprise worth telling you about.
Right in the heart of midtown Manhattan with a penthouse city view is the PHD Terrace at the Dream Hotel. My corporate client, Blokhaus, had chosen it for their annual holiday party. As soon as I walked into the space, I had a good feeling. The warm lighting, the city views, and a certain intimacy all contributed to that.
They had planned an event for 40+ guests (the space holds up to 75) with cocktails, passed hors d'oeuvres and a buffet dinner. And, of course, psychic readings. The client and I chose a lounge alcove adjacent to the outdoor terrace. It was private, comfortable and quiet to make it easy for guests to hear some inspiring guidance. Perfect!
Having been invited to partake in the meal, I looked forward to sampling the buffet. It was yummy! A fun spread of everything from: a fresh seafood bar, to salads, pastas, and an upscale taco bar. I later discovered that this venue is part of the TAO Hospitality Group. That explained the delicious food.
The staff couldn’t have been kinder or more accommodating. And I must put in a plug for the musician. I’ve never heard music quite like it at any event and it was wonderful. As the musician describes himself, a contemporary violinist with expertise in jazz, rock, pop, R&B, hip-hop, and classical styles. Christian Rose

Note: Although I haven’t had the pleasure of visiting them, there are two larger event spaces one flight up that accommodate up to 200. One is currently featuring their winter / holiday decor. (above)
